Vila Pinheiro - Regenerative Homestead
At Vila Pinheiro, situated in the serene vale of Barriadas, in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, we offer much more than just accommodation. We're passionately working towards a dream centred on self-sufficiency, environmental stewardship, and regenerative living. Join us for our diverse courses in Bonsai and Permaculture Design. Alternatively, you can opt to volunteer with us, live alongside Mark and Roz D'Cruz, and personally discover how to shift towards a lifestyle harmonious with nature.
Our Journey to Vila Pinheiro
Our journey began with a desire for financial independence and eco-friendly living. After our children finished university, we started looking for the perfect place. We fell in love with Portugal for its warm weather, friendly people, and fertile soil. We chose Caldas da Rainha, a lovely city near Lisbon Airport with beautiful beaches and great conditions for growing things.
Vila Pinheiro is where our dream came to life. Our home has a modern design and the land is just the right size for our sustainable practices. It's more than just a house; it's a combination of our home, farm, garden, and workspace, all based on following through with a regenerative eco-friendly living.
Mark D'Cruz - A Journey Through Permaculture
Moving to Portugal was a big step for Mark D'Cruz's interest in bonsai. He took a two-week Permaculture Design Certificate Course at Keela Yoga Farm in Portugal, which helped him learn more about living sustainably. This course was the start of a two year journey towards a Diploma in Applied Permaculture, which would transform his bonsai cultivation practices and set him on his path to creating regenerative homestead.
